River Burke
Ceremonialist & Guide
Drinking Gourd Medicine
The Drinking Gourd is a symbol rooted in African American liberation history, guiding enslaved people toward freedom under the night sky. In honoring this lineage, we also recognize that the stars have long guided all who journey in search of direction and home. Sailors, travelers, and dreamers across cultures have looked to the same constellation—the Big Dipper—for navigation and hope. Drinking Gourd Medicine honors this shared human story and welcomes all who wish to walk in the spirit of freedom and healing.
Meet River
River is a ceremonialist, shamanic practitioner, integration coach, and licensed clinical professional psychotherapist with over a decade of experience in guiding others through healing and transformations. In her private outpatient practice, she specializes in supporting individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and PTSD.
Through Drinking Gourd Medicine, as a ceremonialist, River creates sacred space where participants can journey inward, reconnect with their inner wisdom, and restore balance to the soul. Her work bridges the Western clinical traditions with shamanic and spiritual lineages, weaving together psychological insight, somatic awareness, and ceremonial practice into an integrated path of healing.
Clients and ceremony participants often describe River as warm, playful, and grounded. She is curious by profession and goofy by nature, bringing levity and a deep respect for the sacred into her facilitation. She believes that ceremony is a deep blend of work and play, where tears and laughter sit side by side. Her intention is always to help others feel safe enough to meet themselves fully. She is honored to wade in the waters alongside folks navigating their healing path.
